Sustainability from History

COP26 Glasgow may be going on, but a lesson on sustainability can be taken from 700 years ago. #UNESCO 🌐 World Heritage-listed Hakka “Tulous” — 土楼 🌏 🏚 ( (literally “Earth Houses”) have been called “The Greenest Buildings in the World” because of how they were constructed using only wood and earth.

Housing the nomadic Han-Chinese tribes of “Guest People”, they were built in circular fashion for defensive purposes, similar to gypsy caravans or wagons in the days of the American wild west. Rumor has it that satellite imagery once upon a time mistakenly identified them as missile silos.

Built to accommodate entire clans — 200 to 800 people, this was #community living at its peak, with practically all family members living together under one (round) roof.

Wonder how they could live with the in-laws, would you be able to? 
